Excursions
On Tuesday, 27 July two year 10 Geography classes (10A and 10U) went on an excursion to Bournda National Park as part of our current unit of work in Geography. When we arrived at Tura (after a short spell of being lost) the bus driver stopped at one end of the beach to drop off 10U who were met by their guide who was called Doug. Then the driver took the rest of us from 10A to the other end of the beach where we were met by our nice guide whose name was Bob. Bob sat down with us on the beach and taught us things about the local ecosystem at Bournda National Park, even though they happen to be relevant for most south east coast beaches. He assisted us in learning things like how to not litter, how to manage sand dunes and the surrounding environment. He also advised us of things that are responsible for the decline of the condition of the land and the environment. Halfway through the day our groups met up, ate lunch and then swapped guides for the second half of the day. The guides then showed their new groups what they had previously shown the other group. Doug took us on a beautiful walk along the beach whilst teaching us about the locations, types of terrain, and more erosion issues, as well as telling us about some of the techniques used to reduce erosion. He showed us dams for slowing down water flow in times of flooding, and ways the amount of sand taken by flood waters is reduced (a special covering which is put on the ground in places where water flows during floods that stops dirt being picked up by water). The other year 10 Geography classes are yet to do this excursion and they will undertake it over the next couple of weeks. I think we all agreed that the day was awesome and look forward to the pending assignment we must do (JK LOL).
